The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, a nonprofit organization, helps to support the Marine Corps toy drive. It also provides educational and informational materials to the public, arranges for national corporations to incorporate information about Toys for Tots into their paid advertisements, and runs an annual public education program and public relations.
Cots 4 Tots began in 2010 as a campaign to raise funds for Bristol's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael's Hospital. The charity has raised tens of thousands of pounds since its inception, helping families with sick or premature babies across the West of England and South Wales. Its work includes providing accommodation for families in houses and providing state-of-the-art equipment for the NICU.
One of the main focuses is Cots for Tots House, a free "home from home" for families staying at the hospital. It is located right next to the NICU, allowing parents to be close to their infants. The charity has helped over 2,100 families stay at the house since 2012.
Families staying at Cots For Tots House are reassured they aren't alone. They can discuss their experiences with other parents who are going through the exact same issue. In addition, they have access to many services to make their stay as comfortable as is possible.
The charity also funds a musician who visits the NICU in order to reduce anxiety and pain for parents and their babies. It has been proven to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families. Music therapy can decrease the amount of time needed to treat children, thereby saving hospitals both time and money. The therapist uses specially designed instruments that resonate and are tuned to specific frequencies, and they play soothing tunes to soothe babies. Resonant instruments can also soothe fathers and mothers.
